New Sailmaster Commercial Qualification

Australia's Maritime Safety Authority has been reviewing options for a new Australian maritime qualification. Under the "Tinnies to Tanker" program a new qualification as master of sailing vessels less than 24 meters is proposed. The sailmaster qualification allows for commercial operations up to 200 miles offshore if accepted. The Yachting Australia Yachtmaster issued under MOU arrangements with AMSA is the pathway to this qualification.

The RYA / YA yachtmaster certificate will provide MCA recognition in the UK and for white yacht purposes whilst the AMSA qualifcation will mean that skippers will not be required to complete Coxswain or Master Class 5 to operate commercial vessels here in Australia.

New Master Class Program.

We now offer specialised small group classes for any of our RYA programs. With a maximum of two students on board and a yachtmaster cruising instructor we make sure you get plenty of helm expereince. You will also have a guaranteed private cabin quality meals on board and text books supplied.

RYA Day Skipper/Competent Crew weekend practical

Chardonnay Coast takes delivery of a Sunfast 37

Our sailing school now has a Jeaneau Sunfast 37 yacht available for training and student practice without an instructor. The Sunfast is ideal for teaching sail trim and is very fast as a cruiser racer. If you are enrolled or have completed a course at Day Skipper level or above with us you can take the Sunfast out on a share basis with other students to practice your sailing skills at a very reasonable rate of $390 per day. That is less than $100 per day per person based on four on board.

VHF / HF courses

VHF and HF courses are here. Classroom program with fully functional VHF DSC tranceivers for simulated radio calls. A two day course or evening options with external assessment of competency. Students will recieve a Marine Radio operators licence for HF and VHF on satisfactory completion of the assessment. Cost is $250 for the full weekend course and includes text book and radio licence fee. On board accomodation may be available as an extra
