Day Skipper practical aims to show you the practical side of coastal navigation. It assumes competent sailing ability and an understanding of the theory of navigation. The art and science of navigation is to go from point A to point B in the shortest reasonable time, safely and with a crew who will want to go sailing with you again. This is an ideal course if you want to build your knowledge about coastal cruising. The course involves passages to different ports and places as part of building cruising experience and will involve some night sailing at the instructors discretion.
Courses are available commencing every Monday to Friday and on weekends.
This is the minimum course requirement for chartering in Greece or Turkey
Coastal Skipper takes you the next step and is for skippers who want to undertake longer passages or who may come up against heavy weather. You will learn the techniques to safely skipper a yacht by day or night for both offshore and coastal passages. You will be able to plan a passage that takes you into new ports. We will teach you how to manage when the weather takes a turn for the worse and how to stay independant and work in a sea man like manner. We go over heavy weather, restricted visibility, crew management in bad weather and vessel handling and how to keep the boat going when things break. On this course we assume sea rescue is not around the corner to tow you in. This is an advanced sailing program with a special focus on managing the crew as an effective skipper on long passages when bad weather can strike. It assumes sailing ability to Day Skipper standard and navigation and tidal theory to coastal skipper theory standard.
This course is a five day live aboard program. Once you have completed this course you will have an understanding of the skills needed to deal with unexpected and adverse situations on the water.
