South West Yacht Charters is a family owned company established by Helen Punch in January 2000. Chardonnay Coast Sailing is our RYA sailing school division. We are the largest sailing school in Western Australia and the third largest in Australia but we retain the values of a family school.
We own our training yachts and have a great deal of investment in our reputation as a quality school. You will find professional, friendly quality tuition on board and personal attention to detail.
Our yachts are modern, clean and comfortable and we aim to help you have an enjoyable sailing holiday.
We are a registered Western Australian company and we are recognised by the Royal Yachting Association and Yachting Australia.
Helen
 Helen is the owner of our business and looks after all the administration, the crew and the instructors!!! Helen aims to provide the best learn to sail holidays as well as professional career triaining on the South West Coast. As owner, Helen is committed to providing a quality experience and professional tuition.
Helen's standards are:
- Modern relaible yachts surveyed to Western Australian Government standards and RYA/Yachting Australia standards.
- Professional Yachtmaster Instructors who respect our customers.
- Providing value for money live aboard courses and holidays.
- Providing quality wet weather and safety equipment.

Don
Don is the school principal and is a yachtmaster instructor and holds a Master Class 5 commercial sailing qualification. Don is also a qualified radar and diesel engine instructor. This combination of qualifications means Don has met the exacting requirements of the RYA, Yachting Australia as well as the West Australian Government. He has sailed the west coast of Australia, Queensland, the Med and the Irish sea. Don has sailed for over 30 years and completed in races as well as long distance cruising passages. He has well over 40,000 cruising miles and knows the West Australian Coast intimately. Don appreciates safety as the most important consideration and is excellent at training for heavy weather conditions.
Don also teaches VHF and HF radio courses.

Gary
Gary is a yachtmaster instructor from Gibraltar and is our Chief instructor. He has sailed for many years in the UK and the med. He has raced many types of yachts and cruised the English coast as well as Western Australia and Queensland . Gary is great fun and chilled out. Students really like going out with him and he gets lots of great feedback. Gary is excellent on navigation and sail trim having raced and he has no equal when it comes to boat handling. Gary will have you really confident in your berthing and yacht handling and make you the talk of the local yacht clubs.
Gary has over twenty years experience with the Royal Navy, holds a Western Australian Commercial Coxswain certificate and with Don and Vittore is one of Western Australia's most qualifed professional RYA instructors. |

Nick
Nick has had a career change as a cruising instructor and took up sailing after doing a leg of the round the world clipper race from Durban to Fremantle. Nick has also sailed extensively in the UK. Since then he has sailed in the Sydney- Hobart and undertaken racing yacht deliveries from Melbourne to Busselton. In his former life he was a viticulturalist so with wine and sailing he is great company!! Nick has a West Australian Coxswain certificate as well as his RYA qualifications so you can be assured of both a commitment to safety and sailing excellence.

Vittore
Vittore is a qualifed Ocean yachtmaster andYachtmaster Instructor. Vittore did his sail training with Chardonnay Coast and has now built a career in the sailing and charter boat industry. He holds a West Australian master class 5. Vittore is great fun on board and a superb cook and operatic singer!
Vittore has sailed throughout the Kimberley and Pilbara coast and has undertaken deliveries from Sydney to Perth and in south east asia. |
Our Sailing School
Chardonnay Coast Sailing is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association. We deliver courses from beginner to professional Yachtmaster and can take you all the way to a commercial yachtmaster qualification. Our courses blend high quality and professional teaching with new, luxury yachts and the best of equipment and programs. We aim to maintain our position as the best sailing school in Western Australia for both practical courses and shore based theory courses.
We also run team building and management development programs . These programs blend our RYA sailing courses with a range of management development programs to bring out the best in teams. All our team are experienced in senior management roles.
